Inhale

Amongst the fallen leaves and miscellaneous detritus of a quiet forest, a single seed dares to spring forth. Slowly, so slowly it might be missed, the seed sighs and stretches its tendrils out. Groggy but determined, it reaches its limbs into the surrounding soil. As it grows, it waves to the worms, and forms alliances with its neighbors, the most fun guys you've ever seen. Even at its snail-ish pace, you cannot deny the reality of the seed's growth. So slow, but still determined, it presses against the soil crust. As it inhales, a small bud erupts from the earth up out into the open air with all the fanfare of an average weekday. But know that, for all its puny size, the underground network of effort and time and breathing is as mighty as the tree titans around it that seem to almost touch the sky. With each breath, it adapts. Slowly. Carefully. Intentionally. Breathing.

Cardiac Arrest

Dead skin and dead souls; a heart that beats real slow. It’s getting cold and worn, going through the motions; just enough blood to keep going, just enough to survive. In this house that’s not a home, a soft voice reaches for a lover that isn’t there. The cobwebs are trembling in the corners. The heart beats slower, more painfully, squeezing. A soft voice will die here, aching to be held. A soft voice will fade into nothing, and the walls will sigh in relief. Let go, dear. Let go.

Drama drips from my lips; I’m an enigma, apparently. A hysterical woman; emotional and unruly. My state of mind is fragile, apparently, and interaction with me should be akin to tap dancing on thin ice. Or at least this is how my family sees me, ‘cuz, you see, when I was younger, I made an effort to be smaller. Never talk. Dancing shadows had more presence in any room than I ever did. Opinions? Not if having them meant causing problems for the people around me. Emotions? Just the standard ones; but nothing too intense. Lock away the panic and fear. Depression has no place on this black face. Anger and agitation are luxuries

For my entomology class, we had to catch insects in a jar, 65 different kinds of insects. So me being me, which is an awful thing to be, I decided to go into the woods by my school where all the cool insects were hiding while the sun was setting in the sky. I stumbled into the woods with poor decisions on my lips and shoes that had the opposite of grip. I slipped and slid down steep paths, and went off path to find this creek where all the cool insects might be. I found it, or rather, my body found it, as I lost my footing and slid like a drunk Olympian down this gorge, catching every spider web on the way. I crouched and caught the trunk

Sweat and Green Tea

It’s hotter than Satan’s tender inner thigh, and yet I am drinking green tea, floral jasmine green with an aroma that warms my chest; my chest that is already sweating. Why do I do this? Why must I submit to simple pleasures even while my body continues to cry through its pores? Who knows, but I really love tea. So I guess submitting to love is an okay way to suffer.

The world still feels strange to me; I’m a stranger to my own life, each breath clinging to my airways, too nervous to leave my nose and throat. I am a walking picture slightly tilted. I am putting makeup on the face of someone whose name is on the tip of my tongue when I look in the mirror. I am not awful; this place within myself isn’t awful. I’m just a stranger to my own room, the heart that pounds in my chest beats in a foreign language. I am somewhere. I don’t really know if I can say I’m here.

I crave to be desired. I yearn for it like a babe yearns to suckle on their mother's breast. My mouth salivates at the thought of being admired because being admired is a foreign concept to me. I became desensitized to feeling starved of affection after my last few relationships featured hot new tracks such as "Apathy Is What You Will Receive" and "You Should Be Able Reassure Yourself." Keepin It Positive

Two more weeks until I move back to school in Santa Cruz! I'm so excited, I'm so ready to goooooo! So much has been happening this summer. I've been sick (I'm always sick, but especially this summer), and there's been so much drama. But it's okay :) everything in life happens for a reason. I'm ready to just go back to school and work my ass off like no tomorrow, and possibly turn up at a few parties in between. I'm single now! My (ex) girlfriend broke up with me a couple weeks ago.
